He was a master in the wet and very fast when conditions were good, his control was the best in the business
The Esso Championship was well attended, in some races, as many as 90 entrants, this involved 3 practice sessions, 3 Heats and the final.
Racing was very competitive and was full of young drivers who are and/or have been famous

His racing came to an end after testing another make of formual ford, (The Pace), at Snetterton.
He had an accident and crushed his sankles which took a long time to heal.
Formual Ford did not seem the same again.
